1. Renovation of Chung Chi College Elisabeth Luce Moore Library

1. Financed by UGC AA+I funding, the entire Chung Chi College Library will undergo a phased renovation this summer.  The following areas will be closed to users during the renovation:

2/F and LG/F May 10 - June 10
1/F May 30 - July 10
G/F July 11 - August 20

2. Library Regulation on Systematic or Excessive Downloading

Observing the Law on Copyright and Systematic or Excessive Downloading of Electronic Content:

The use of Library materials and facilities is subject to data protection legislation, copyright law and vendor licence agreements.  Users must observe the applicable copyright law and the terms of any vendor licence agreements for materials they use, including print materials, electronic resources and materials in all other formats.  The Law states that serious infringement in photocopying, scanning or downloading of copyrighted material could lead to civil action or even criminal prosecution.

3. Clearing Copyright for Course Packs

The University has recently signed a licence agreement (course packs) with the Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Society (HKRRLS).  The two-year licence agreement grants the University the right to make and use copies of the licenced materials for preparation of course packs subject to the terms and conditions set out in the agreement.

4. Library Summer Certificate Course 2005: Information Literacy Skills

The University Library is pleased to offer a series of summer courses in May 2005.  After attending the 5 lessons on information literacy skills, you will be granted a certificate by the Library.

Lesson 1: Introduce to information sources
Lesson 2: Basic electronic database searching skills
Lesson 3: How to find books, journal articles, conference proceedings, theses and
               audio-visual materials
Lesson 4: How to find information on the web
Lesson 5: Evaluating and citing information

5. Hong Kong Reading Month 2005

Reading the Horizons of Knowledge -- Book Exhibition in the University Library
Date: April 20 - May 23, 2005 (Library opening hours)
Venue: Lobby, University Library

In line with the "Hong Kong Reading Month 2005" programmes jointly organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Publishing Federation, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, HKedCity, RTHK and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the University Library is going to hold a book exhibition from April 20 to May 23, 2005 in the lobby of the University Library.  Books displayed include Chinese and English rare books, classics and best-sellers.  Library users are welcome.

6. Exhibition of Select Chinese Rare Books of Peking University Library

The University Library System and Peking University Library jointly held the "Exhibition of Select Chinese Rare Books of Peking University Library" from April 20 to April 30, 2005 at the Exhibition Hall of the University Library.  Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Jao Tsung-i, Emeritus Professor of Chinese Language & Literature, officiated at the opening ceremony on April 20, 2005.

7. Alumni Library Card and Service

CUHK graduates may apply for the Alumni Borrower's Card or Alumni Reader's Card.  While the Alumni Reader's Card allows the alumni to use all the Library resources and facilities in the Library, the Alumni Borrower's Card allows the alumni to check out ten items at most at a time, and loan period of each is 14 days.  Alumni Borrower's Card holders may also apply for the Digital Library Service for Alumni that enables them to remotely access those electronic databases specifically for the use of alumni.

8. Library Boulevard

Ever since it was built, the short dual carriageway running between the Tin Ka Ping and Fung King Hey Buildings has been designated the "Library Boulevard" on campus maps.  However, until now, there has never been any public sign indicating that the road actually had such an elegant name.
