1. Library Survey 2007 - Thank you for your participation!

As part of our continuous effort to improve library services, the University Library System conducted a survey in November 2007.  Over 3,000 staff and students completed the survey and half of respondents also supplied written comments.  The survey results will be compiled and posted on the Library's web page in spring 2008.

2. Increase of maximum number of renewals for HKALL Items

To facilitate the use of the Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL), effective January 2, 2008, the maximum number of renewals for the HKALL items will be increased to two.  All loans are subject to recall.

3. Laptop Computer Lending Service

Current CUHK faculty, students and staff can now borrow a laptop computer for use in the University Library.  There are 5 laptop computers available for loan.

4. Library Room Booking System

The Library is pleased to announce that an online Library Room Booking System is now available to all CU Link and library card holders to book group study rooms, group viewing rooms and audiovisual rooms in the libraries of the University Library System.

5. Agreement Signing Ceremony between the University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Library of the Université de Provence

The University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Library of the Université de Provence (UP) of France signed an agreement on November 5, 2007 for a cooperative venture to collect and purchase materials relating to and written by Mr. Gao Xingjian, Nobel Laureate in Literature in 2000, in order to strengthen each other's library collections.  The signing ceremony was conducted by the University Librarians of both universities, Dr. Colin Storey and Mrs. Martine Mollet, and witnessed by Prof. Jack Cheng, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, a representative from the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, and other distinguished guests.

6. Preliminary Announcement: "A Chinese Literary Book Corner"

Two distinguished Chinese authors will read from their works, followed by an informal Q&A session.

8. Information Literacy Courses for CUHK Students: January - June 2008

The University Library will offer intensive courses from January to June 2008 to assist students in preparing for the Information Literacy Section of the Student IT Proficiency Test.  The course provides not only an overview of the Web-based Information Literacy Tutorial, but also includes exercises and practices in (1) formulating search strategies, (2) finding information using the Library Catalogue, research databases and the Internet, and (3) evaluating information sources.
