1. CUHK's Law Library Named After Dr Lee Quo Wei

In appreciation of the significant contributions made by Dr. the Honourable Lee Quo Wei to The Chinese University of Hong Kong since its inception, CUHK named its Law Library the Lee Quo Wei Law Library.  The Naming Ceremony was held on 26 January at the University Library and CUHK was most honoured that Dr. and Mrs. Lee Quo Wei attended as guests of honour.

2. Increase of Hold Quota

To facilitate the use of the Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL), the hold quota for library users with a quota of 3 has been increased to 10, effective February 1, 2007.  Please visit the Library webpage on "Borrowing Privilege" for details.

3. Over 120,000 Ebooks are available 24x7 now!

Further to the good news about the strengthening of CUHK e-journal collections in the January issue of the Library Newsletter, the University Library System is pleased to announce the addition of the following new e-books acquired through the collaborative effort of a consortium of eight UGC libraries.  With these new additions, as well as more forthcoming consortial purchases, it is anticipated that the CUHK ebook collection will reach 150,000 titles by mid-2007, covering all disciplines.  Do try them out, they are available 24x7, accessible anywhere!

4. Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College

The exhibition titled "Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College", co-organized by United College, Art Museum and University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, will be held from 5 March 2007 to 13 April 2007 at the University Library Exhibition Hall, and from 17 April to 27 May 2007 at Wu Chung Multimedia Library.

5. E-Resources Day Held Successfully

The Library organized a series of activities in February, including an online quiz, seminars, exhibits and games, for students to learn more about the Library's electronic resources.  Winners of the online quiz received book coupons of $400 and were invited to join the final competition held on the E-Resources Day, February 7, competing for a big prize.  Over 700 students and staff participated in this meaningful event and photos are available at http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/information/07eday.htm.

6. "Exhibition of Rare Editions of Modern Chinese Literary Writings"

An "Exhibition of Rare Editions of Modern Chinese Literary Writings—Select Works Published in Shanghai & Hong Kong in the Republican China Period" organized by the University Library System was held in the Exhibition Hall of the University Library from January 3 to February 28, 2007.  We are honored to have Professor David Der-wei Wang, Edward C. Henderson Professor of East Asian Languages & Cultures of Harvard University, Professor Chen Ping-yuan, Department of Chinese Languages & Literature of Beijing University, Mr. Hui Ting-ming, a famous Hong Kong collector, and Mrs. Rita Wong, Deputy Librarian, to officiate the Opening Ceremony on 3 January, 2007.  Over 80 VIPs from education, culture and publishing sectors joined and shared the memorable moments with us.
