6. "Exhibition of Rare Editions of Modern Chinese Literary Writings"

An "Exhibition of Rare Editions of Modern Chinese Literary Writings—Select Works Published in Shanghai & Hong Kong in the Republican China Period" organized by the University Library System was held in the Exhibition Hall of the University Library from January 3 to February 28, 2007.  We are honored to have Professor David Der-wei Wang, Edward C. Henderson Professor of East Asian Languages & Cultures of Harvard University, Professor Chen Ping-yuan, Department of Chinese Languages & Literature of Beijing University, Mr. Hui Ting-ming, a famous Hong Kong collector, and Mrs. Rita Wong, Deputy Librarian, to officiate the Opening Ceremony on 3 January, 2007.  Over 80 VIPs from education, culture and publishing sectors joined and shared the memorable moments with us.

In line with the theme of the exhibition, the University Library System published a monograph entitled Traces of the Faces: A Miscellany of Book Covers of Literary Works in the Republican China Period 1911-1949《書影留蹤》 to arouse the interest and awareness of the general public about rare editions of modern Chinese literary publications in the Republican China Period.  It covers a total of 382 valuable titles and is available for sale at the Circulation Counter of the New Asia College Ch'ien Mu Library at HK$50.
