1. Going Green

Sustainability is important to the Library.  The new University Library Extension was awarded the highest possible rating of 'Platinum' for HK-BEAM, the Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method, which measures the whole life environmental sustainability of buildings.  However we think there is more we can do.

Last year we started with de-lamping the Reading Room in the University Library and installing more motion sensors in group study rooms.  Working in partnership with EMO we have been measuring lux levels, a measure of the intensity of light, throughout the University Library and have identified further areas for de-lamping, particularly the Law Library that will have little or no impact on users; we will be piloting de-lamping and additional motion sensors on the 4th floor of the University Library and Extension and in the bookstacks we will reduce the time the lights stay on after a user has moved away.

We hope you will support us in this initiative and would like to hear from you if you have any comments or concerns.  Please email library@cuhk.edu.hk
