Using Student/Staff/Library ID for Library Online Services |
|
I. CUHK Students and Staff
The Library is pleased to announce the latest enhancement to its online services. Effective January 2, 2009, students and staff can login to all Library online services, such as E-Resources, MyLibrary, Room Booking and so on, with their Student/Staff IDs as appeared in the front of the CU Link card (as shown in Figure 1) and Library passwords for authentication.
All existing Student/Staff Card holders can continue to input their Library Card Numbers as printed on the back of their CU Link card to login the Library online services. Moreover, Copying/Printing Card holders can continue to use their Library IDs.

Information Literacy Course for CUHK Students |
|
The University Library will offer intensive courses from January to June 2009 to assist students in preparing for the Information Literacy Section of the Student IT Proficiency Test. The course provides not only an overview of the Web-based Information Literacy Tutorial, but also includes exercises and practice in:
- Formulating search strategies,
- Finding information using the Library Catalogue, research databases and the Internet, and
- Evaluating information sources.

With this service, a courtesy message will be shown if your checkout item(s) are
due within 5 days. You can also click "My Library Record" to get access to

New SSL Digital Certificates on the Library Online Services |
|
The Library is pleased to announce the installation of SSL digital certificates issued by ITSC (CUHK Certification Authority). With this service, the "Security certificate problem" alert message will no longer be prompted while accessing to our secure web services such as MyLibrary and remote access to E-Resources.

A New Database in EBSCOhost – CINAHL Plus |
|
Because of the change in licence, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature) will be removed from OvidSP on December 31, 2008. From January 1, 2009 onwards, an expanded version of CINAHL, CINAHL Plus, will be available in a new search interface EBSCOhost.

Opening of the Exhibition "Memories of Hong Kong – The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung" |
|
An exhibition "Memories of Hong Kong – The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung", with special emphasis on his literary achievements during his stay in Hong Kong (1974-1985), was jointly organized by the Faculty of Arts, the United College and the University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from December 15, 2008 to January 7, 2009 at the Exhibition Hall of the University Library, CUHK. Prof. Yu Kwang Chung and Mrs. Yu, Prof. Fung Kwok Pui, College Head of United College, Prof. Laurence Wong, Acting Head of Faculty of Arts and Dr. Colin Storey, University Librarian of CUHK, officiated at the Opening Ceremony at the Exhibition Hall at 4 p.m. on December 15, 2008. |
The exhibition "A Hanlin Scholar's Legacy: Handwritten Letters to Lai Chi-hsi from Distinguished Contemporaries" being held between Oct 27 and Nov 30, 2008 in the Exhibition Hall of the University Library has come to an end. The opening ceremony held on Oct 27, 2008 was officiated by Mr. TC Lai, chairman of the Hok Hoi Library; Professor So Fong-suk, Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies; Mr. Chan Siu-nam, Vice Chairman of the Hok Hoi Library, and Dr. Colin Storey, University Librarian.
