8. Opening of the Exhibition "Memories of Hong Kong – The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung"

An exhibition "Memories of Hong Kong – The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung", with special emphasis on his literary achievements during his stay in Hong Kong (1974-1985), was jointly organized by the Faculty of Arts, the United College and the University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from December 15, 2008 to January 7, 2009 at the Exhibition Hall of the University Library, CUHK.  Prof. Yu Kwang Chung and Mrs. Yu, Prof. Fung Kwok Pui, College Head of United College, Prof. Laurence Wong, Acting Head of Faculty of Arts and Dr. Colin Storey, University Librarian of CUHK, officiated at the Opening Ceremony at the Exhibition Hall at 4 p.m. on December 15, 2008.  Over 60 guests from literary, education and cultural sectors joined the ceremony.  Please refer to http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/Exhibition/Yukwangchung for details.

The exhibition showcased the manuscripts, letters, photos and private collections of Prof. Yu Kwang Chung.  During the exhibition period, guided tours for secondary school students were scheduled. 

Professor Yu Kwang Chung, a well-known Chinese scholar and poet, and formerly a Reader at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK from 1974 to 1985, enjoys high reputation in literary circles and has been awarded numerous prestigious prizes and honours. 

 

Literary Talk by Prof.Yu Kwang Chung were successfully held on December 15, 2008

Apart from the exhibition, a literary talk was delivered by Prof. Yu together with recitation of his works by students on December 15, 2008 (Monday) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lecture Theatre of the Shaw College.  When started, four students recited Prof. Yu's poetry and prose, two from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK and one each from Heep Yunn School and Concordia Lutheran School respectively.  Afterwards, Prof. Laurence Wong was invited to introduce the literary life of Prof. Yu to the participants.  After sharing his experience on literary writing, Prof. Yu recited some of his recent works.  Finally, Prof. Fan Sin Piu, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, was invited to chair the Q&A section.  The talk was well-received by over 500 participants from over 30 secondary schools as well as faculty and students of CUHK.
