Hong Kong Newspaper Literary Supplements Digitization Project is one of the major digitization projects by the University Library System. It aims at collecting, compiling and digitizing the major newspaper literary supplements in Hong Kong. In July 2004, the University Library System was commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to launch the Index to the Hong Kong Newspaper Literary Supplements Project which compiled the indexes to three major Hong Kong newspaper literary supplements, namely 'Wen Xue' of Ta Kung Pao (1996-2000), 'Wen Yi' of Wen Wei Pao (1996-1998), 'Xin Qu' of New Life Evening Post (1945-1975). By the end of 2005, these three indexes were uploaded into Hong Kong Literature Database for global users.
Right now, there are 18 major Hong Kong newspaper literary supplements, from 10 newspaper titles, with more than 150,000 records in the Hong Kong Literature Database. To publicize the result of the Project, a Press Conference was held on March 3, 2006 at 4:30 pm at the Hong Kong Literature Collection Room of the University Library. Professor Fan Sin Piu, Associate Professor of Department of Chinese Language and Literature of the CUHK, was invited to introduce his recent research project on the New Life Evening Post at the Press Conference. After the Press Conference, the Library also invited the famous Hong Kong author Mr. Liu Yi Chang to be the speaker of a seminar titled 'Editing Hong Kong Newspaper Literary Supplements: My Experience' in order to uplift the public interest in this important information resources.
