8. Exhibition of "The Bei Shan Tang Legacies – Gifts of Chinese Rare Books"

In June 2008, the University Library System received a donation from the Bei Shan Tang Foundation which comprises 1,383 titles of Chinese ancient books in 9,886 volumes, among them, 52 titles are rare books (i.e. before 1796).  This is the largest donation of Chinese ancient books received by the Library in the last 40 years.  This Exhibition was especially held to express the thankfulness of the Library towards the Bei Shan Tang Foundation's generosity and support.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Chien Lee, chairman of the Bei Shan Tang Foundation, and Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, vice-chancellor of CUHK, at 11:00 a.m. on December 4, 2009.

The Exhibition mainly displayed the selected and most valuable rare books, manuscripts and hand-written copies of the donation.  It was held at the Exhibition Hall, University Library, from December 4, 2009 to January 3, 2010.
