3. Library Summer Certificate Course 2009

The University Library is pleased to offer a series of workshops on information literacy skills in May 2009.  After attending any 3 sessions, you will be awarded a certificate issued by the Library.

Programme:

Session 1: Finding books and more for your research
Demonstrates advanced search of library catalogue to find books, e-books, audio-visual materials, theses, etc.

May 20 (Wed) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Session 2: Finding journal articles and more for your research
Introduces simple and effective database search techniques to find journal and newspaper articles, proceedings, etc.  This workshop will also demonstrate the use of subject-specific databases and 360 Search.

May 21 (Thu) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Session 3: Using the Web for information and research
Overviews and demonstrates effective means of searching the Internet, as well as how to select and evaluate Internet resources for information and research.

May 25 (Mon) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Session 4: Managing Your Citations with RefWorks
Demonstrates how to use RefWorks, a web-based bibliography and database manager, to produce bibliographies and in-text references in a variety of citation styles (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc).  Two identical sessions will be held on the following dates:

May 25 (Mon) 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
May 26 (Tue) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
