1. Library Workshops for September – October 2010

After attending any five courses on information research skills, participants will be granted a Library Information Literacy Certificate by the Library.  Students, in groups of ten or more, can also request library courses to suit their information needs and schedules. 

PROGRAMS:

Program 1: Library Orientation
Topics covered include library services and resources, your borrowing privileges, how to renew and place holds on library materials in the Library Catalogue, and a library tour.

Program 2: Introduction to Academic Research Skills
This workshop provides a foundation for new undergraduate students for their later research at the University and the Library.  It covers concepts, terminology and basic search skills such as understanding reading lists, recognizing the difference between primary and secondary sources, scholarly and popular sources, as well as developing search strategies.
 
Program 3: Finding Library Materials
Demonstrates techniques for using the Library Catalogue to locate books, theses, journals, and more.

Program 4:  Finding Journal Articles
Introduces simple and effective database search techniques for finding journal articles and research reports.  This workshop will also demonstrate the use of subject-specific databases and 360 Search.

Program 5: Finding E-Books and E-News
Introduces various ebook collections and demonstrates how to search international and local news sources.

Program 6: Information Searching on the Internet
Demonstrates Internet search techniques to find quality information on the Web.

Program 7: Finding Information on Hong Kong
Introduces the search techniques to find different types of Hong Kong materials on various subjects in the Libraries.
