3. Major Additions to Electronic Journals / Databases

The University Library System (ULS) is delighted to announce that the following major electronic academic journals collections/databases will be available to our users from January 2007 onwards.  The acquisition of these electronic scholarly resources is a result of concerted effort to strengthen the support in teaching and research to the CUHK community.  Like most other ULS subscribed electronic resources, these new resources can be easily accessed in the library, at your office, at home, or anywhere through the Library's remote access service.  Please visit the Library website for more available electronic resources.

AccessSurgery

AccessSurgery is a media-rich online resource for surgical education that combines McGraw-Hill references with surgical videos and animations.  It delivers text updates, editor's journal reviews, and video podcasts (vodcasts) that highlight key surgical techniques from the editors of Schwartz's Principles of Surgery.  This fully integrated resource also includes a comprehensive drug database updated in real-time, one-click access to related government guidelines, a differential diagnosis tool with over 100 symptoms and diseases, and detailed cancer staging tables.

Business Source Complete
 
BSC indexes over 12,500 scholarly business journals and other sources, with full text for over 10,000 titles.  It covers all areas of business including accounting & tax, finance & insurance, construction, computer science, economics and many more.  The database contains full text from international top ranking journals such as Harvard Business Review, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Journal of Marketing Management, etc.

Digital Dissertation Consortium

Digital Dissertation Consortium covers over 63,000 full-text dissertations from ProQuest Dissertations and Theses subscribed by Taiwan and Hong Kong consortium members.

Emerald Management Xtra
 
Emerald Management Xtra combines the powerful resources of both the Emerald Fulltext database and Emerald Management Reviews database.  It has introduced a new standard format of structured abstracts provides consistent summaries to allow the user to see whether an article is appropriate for their research.
 
Emerald Management Xtra includes: Emerald Fulltext of 150 Journals, Emerald Engineering, Emerald Management Reviews, Computer Abstracts International Database, International Civil Engineering Abstracts and Computer Communications Security Abstracts.

Elsevier ScienceDirect Freedom Collection

The ScienceDirect Freedom Collection, consisting of approximately 1,800 online journals, provides the full text electronic version of the majority of journals published by Elsevier, which includes a good number of science journal literature published in English and many prestigious international journals. 

Karger Journals Online
 
Karger Publishers is a biomedical and scientific publisher of print and online journals as well as books in all medical specialties.  Its Journals Online Program provides access to all its 71 full text journals in myriad areas of medicine in a user-friendly platform. 

Project MUSE

Project MUSE is a not-for-profit collaboration between libraries and publishers that provides 100% full-text, online access to over 300 journals in humanities, arts, and social sciences from 60 scholarly publishers to support a core liberal arts curriculum at any academic institution.  Every journal is heavily indexed and peer-reviewed by the most respected scholars in their fields.  MUSE is also the sole source of complete, full-text versions of titles from many of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies.
 
ProQuest 5000
 
ProQuest 5000 covers a wide range of subject disciplines including, but not limited to, literature, social science, education, business, economic, medical science, science and technology.  It provides access to nearly 10,000 publications, with more than 5,400 titles in full text and image published in newspapers, periodicals, and dissertations, etc.

Science and Nature
 
Both Science and Nature are leading journals in the field of science and medicine with extremely high impact factors.  Science publishes original scientific research, global news, and commentary.  Nature covers the finest peer-reviewed research in all fields of science and technology.  Its family of journals including Nature research journals, Nature Reviews and NPG academic journals provide the world's premier information resource for the basic biological and physical sciences.

In recognition of their importance, the subscriptions to 12 Nature's family of journals have been commenced since 2003.  From 2007 onwards, the number of subscriptions will increase to 26.  Science can also be fully accessed online with unlimited access.
