9. A Hanlin Scholar's Legacy: Handwritten Letters to Lai Chi-hsi from Distinguished Contemporaries

The exhibition "A Hanlin Scholar's Legacy: Handwritten Letters to Lai Chi-hsi from Distinguished Contemporaries" being held between Oct 27 and Nov 30, 2008 in the Exhibition Hall of the University Library has come to an end.  The opening ceremony held on Oct 27, 2008 was officiated by Mr. TC Lai, chairman of the Hok Hoi Library; Professor So Fong-suk, Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies; Mr. Chan Siu-nam, Vice Chairman of the Hok Hoi Library, and Dr. Colin Storey, University Librarian.

Seventy-five ink brush handwritten letters from the Qing Dynasty to early Republican China written to Lai Chi-hsi together with Lai's three pieces of handwritings were on display to the public.  These letters were provided by Mr. TC Lai, descendent of Lai Chi-hsi, and a portion of it had been donated to the University Library.  As part of the event, the University Library has compiled these letters into a special edition under the same title of this exhibition.  This is now distributed by the Chinese University Press.
