3. Renovation of Chung Chi College Library

Financed by UGC AA+I funding, Chung Chi College Library underwent a major renovation in the summer of 2005.  The whole library is fully refurbished to provide an interactive and independent study environment.  There are informal sitting areas with comfortable chairs for study and leisure reading.  Group study rooms are provided for students to work together.  Study carrels, arranged along the windows, are specially designed for those who desire a quiet environment for their study.

In addition to computers with Library Catalogue access on all floors, two Information Commons, where students can work on class assignments from start to finish, are added on the 1/F and 2/F.  Wireless LAN is also available throughout the building to facilitate the use of personal notebook computers.

To relieve space problems, the library has installed two sets of electronic compact shelving system.  One set of these shelves, located on the 2/F, houses part of the books on Western Languages and Literature.  The other set is installed on LG/F for all bound journals.  The library has also taken this opportunity to relocate books to enhance access.  The call numbers in the book collection are now arranged in one linear sequence, beginning on the 1/F and continuing up on the 2/F.

A new Late Reading Room, with a separate entrance, is located on the G/F for study after the library closes.
