3. Reading the Horizons of Knowledge -- Book Exhibition in the University Library

The University Library successfully held a book exhibition from April 23 to May 23, 2005 entitled "Reading the Horizons of Knowledge - Book Exhibition in the University Library" ranged from classics to modern day best-sellers, and including rare Chinese and English books.  The exhibition was one of the programmes of the "Hong Kong Reading Month 2005" jointly organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Publishing Federation, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government, HKedCity, RTHK and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.

The exhibition was well received with 80% of the book borrowed by our library users.  As part of the library's community service, the exhibition was also offered to secondary school students and teachers in guided tours.  A total of 16 schools with 350 students were received.  The students showed great interests particularly in our two special collections -- the Hong Kong Literature Collection and Gao Xingjian's Collection.  Mr. Gao is the first Chinese Nobel Laureate in Literature.  Response from the public was most favourable.
