4. The New East Asian Languages Bibliographic Service Centre

We are happy to announce that the East Asian Languages Bibliographical Service Centre (EALBSC) under the University Library System has been established to provide fee-based cataloguing services for other libraries.  The University Library System has been contributing records to OCLC WorldCat bibliographic database and our records have been highly regarded by local and overseas libraries.  With encouraging support, the EALBSC is established.  This Centre catalogues all forms of materials published in the Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.   The bibliographical data is delivered in MARC format with catalogued records conforming to standards like Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings and MARC21.

EALBSC recently signed its first agreement, an agreement with Run Run Shaw Library, City University of Hong Kong to provide cataloguing service for their Japanese library materials.  It is the first time in Hong Kong a university library offers bibliographical service to other institutions.
