Library Services and Resources for Postgraduate Students
Introduces library services and resources catering for postgraduate students. Resources on major platforms, such as ERL, Ovid and ISI Web of Knowledge, full text databases and dissertations will be covered.
Advanced Library Catalogue Searching
Demonstrates the advanced techniques for searching the CUHK Library Catalogue. Topics covered include the use of operators, field-specific searches, types of materials, My Library Record, HKALL, etc.
Chinese Databases on Humanities and Social Sciences
Introduces and demonstrates the searching of Chinese databases on various subjects in humanities and social sciences.
Datastream Advance
Datastream Advance provides historical data for financial markets worldwide, including equity prices, stock market indices, economic data, foreign exchange rates, interest rates, etc. The workshop will demonstrate how to find these data and effective use of Static Request, Time Series Request, and Company Account Request.
Document Information Sources with RefWorks
Demonstrates how to use RefWorks, a web-based bibliography and database manager, to produce bibliographies and in-text references in a variety of citation styles (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). Topics covered include setting up a RefWorks Account, creating folders, importing references from databases, creating a bibliography in a variety of formats/styles, and using Write-N-Cite to create in-text references.
Electronic Resources on Philosophy and Religions
Introduces databases related to philosophy and religion studies and demonstrates searching strategy.
Finding Career Information
Introduces online career resources and demonstrates search skills on job hunting and advanced study pursuit.
Finding Economic and Social Data
Introduces major statistical resources on economics and social sciences, and demonstrates how to find relevant data and statistics in online databases such as International Financial Statistics, SourceOECD, WDI Online, etc.
Finding Information on Hong Kong
Introduces the searching of different types of Hong Kong materials on various subjects in the Libraries.
Finding IT Information
Introduces and demonstrates various online resources on information technology including ACM Digital Library, Gartner's Core Research for Higher Education, ProQuest Telecommunications, and so on.
Finding Theses and Dissertations
Introduces and demonstrates the use of databases on dissertations such as ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, Digital Dissertation Consortium, Dissertations and Theses @ CUHK, WanFang Data - Chinese Dissertations Database, as well as locating theses and dissertations in academic libraries in Hong Kong.
