5. Good Practice to Safeguard your Library Account

Your library account consisting of your user name and password enables you to access online the library's extensive subscribed electronic resources through a system of user identification and authentication allowing you to be recognized as an authorized user.  It is important to safeguard your library account especially your password to prevent abuse or any unauthorized activity of the electronic resources as these may lead to the suspension of resources for the whole University.

The following are some good practices that will assist you to enhance the security of your account:

  1. CHANGE your password constantly at https://library.cuhk.edu.hk/patroninfo.  If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it at https://library.cuhk.edu.hk/pinreset.  For more information on changing/resetting your Library password, please refer to our online guide at http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/LibPassword
  2. Change the default or initial password once you have received it;
  3. Construct a stronger password
    A strong password should:
    1. contain not less than 8 characters with a mix of at least eight alphabetic characters and numerals;
    2. avoid using personal information, such as, your real name, names of family, ID card number, phone numbers, etc;
    3. avoid using all the same letters or same digits (e.g. aaaaa, 11111), or consecutive letters or numbers (e.g. abcde, 12345) or adjacent keys on the keyboard (e.g. qwerty) etc as a password
  4. Do not share your account information with any third parties;
  5. Do not write down your password.

You are STRONGLY ADVISED to take the above measures to protect your own user name and password and to ensure our resources are not misused.
