6. Donation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Christian Council Archive and the Launching of the Archive of Christian Study Centre on Chinese Religion and Culture

The CUHK Library has recently received a donation of archival materials from the Hong Kong Christian Council and a donation ceremony was held on June 2, 2008 at the Library.  Rev. Lee Ting-sun Ralph (General Secretary of Hong Kong Christian Council), Rt. Rev. Thomas Soo Yee Po (Bishop of the Diocese of Western Kowloon, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui), Prof. Leung Yuen-sang (Head of Chung Chi College), and other faculty members attended to celebrate the occasion.

The materials donated include annual reports, correspondence, minutes, and photographs of the Council and, the most valuable of all, the correspondence of Dr. Leung Siu Choh (梁小初博士).  These documents not only record the development of the Council, but also capture the missionary activities in Hong Kong, particularly in the areas of education, medical and social services, since the 1950s.  These materials are an important addition to the Library's special collection.

The Library has also launched the Archive of the Christian Study Centre on Chinese Religion and Culture (http://religion.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/) on the same day.  With 50,000 documents and over 170,000 full-text images, the Archive contains all the documents donated by the Christian Study Centre on Chinese Religion and Culture to the Library.  The Library has spent two and a half years to digitize these documents and to make them available for study and research by CUHK community.  Others who are interested may also search the indexes of the database.
