The Library has arranged a seminar with Figshare and Digital Science on new tools for managing research to be held on November 3, 2014 (Mon) for academics, researchers and research students.
First Talk: Research Data Management - Innovation and Trend
Speaker: Dr. Mark Hahnel, Figshare, Founder
Topics: - What are the benefits for researchers and institutions?
- Deluge of data and research data trends
- Figshare
- Copyright and others issues in making research outputs and raw data openly available
Second Talk: Altmetrics
Speaker: Ms. Anne Harvey, Regional Sales Director, Australia & New Zealand, Digital Science
Topics:
- Trends in altmetrics and benefits for researchers
- Altmetric for Institutions
- Demonstration on Altmetric
Figshare allows users to upload any file format to be made visualisable (is this a real word?) in the browser so that figures, datasets, videos, papers, posters, presentations, code and filesets can be disseminated in a way that the current scholarly publishing model does not allow.
Altmetric for Institutions tracks both social media and traditional media associated with a researcher's articles, including tweets, blog posts, Mendeley readers, Nature news, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the BBC. The attention from these outlets allows an article to be assigned an "Altmetric score" and a badge showing the article's score is displayed against articles in Elements.
Date: November 3, 2014 (Mon)
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Venue: User Education Room 1, G/F, University Library
