This exhibition brings together children's readers published in Hong Kong and those published during the Minguo Period (1912-1949) in China so as to provide an overview on the development of Chinese children's literature as well as the close connection between Hong Kong children's literature and modern Chinese children's literature.
The Library has selected more than 80 titles of journal and book published between 1920s and 1960s in China and Hong Kong. Exhibits on display include monographs like Yu Pingbo's Yi (1925) and Feng Zikai's Er tong sheng huo man hua (1948). Translated works include Lu Xun's Biao (1947) and Xu Yingchang's Peter Pan (1933). Series such as Xiao xue sheng wen ku of Shanghai Shang wu yin shu guan in 1930s, Jin ren gu shi cong shu of Shanghai Er tong shu ju in 1940s and also Xin er tong cong shu of Hong Kong Progressive Education Publishers in late 1940s. Journals on display include Er tong chen bao (1932), Kai ming shao nian (1947), Xiao peng you, which was first published in Shanghai in the end of 1940s and transferred to Hong Kong in the 1950s, and titles published in Hong Kong such as Children's Paradise and Children' weekly.
