Ba Jin, the famous writer in modern Chinese literature, passed away on October 17, 2005 in Shanghai at the age of 100. In order to celebrate the contributions made by Ba Jin to the modern literary movement in China, the University Library holds an exhibition of Ba Jin's works and associated commentaries of his writings from October 25 to November 27, 2005.
Born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1904, Ba Jin, originally known as Li Feigan, devoted his whole life to the promotion of modern Chinese literature. He was a prolific writer of proses, novels, and literary criticism, some of which have been translated into various foreign languages. Among his important works are the Trilogy of Love, Fog, Rain and Lightning and his autobiographic Turbulent Stream Trilogy, Family, Spring and Autumn. His other well known titles include Cold Nights and Random Thoughts. He also made a remarkable contribution to the translation of Russian and other foreign language works, particularly the novels of Turgenev. Ba Jin was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Literature honoris causa by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1984.
