The University Library is pleased to offer a series of workshops on information literacy skills in June 2010. After attending any 3 sessions, you will be awarded a certificate issued by the Library. Programme:
Session 1: Finding books and more for your research
Demonstrates advanced search features of the library catalogue to find books, e-books, audio-visual materials, theses, etc.
June 2, 2010 (Wednesday) 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Session 2: Finding journal articles and more for your research
Introduces simple and effective database search techniques to find journal and newspaper articles, proceedings, etc. This workshop will also demonstrate the use of subject-specific databases and 360 Search.
June 3, 2010 (Thursday) 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Session 3: Using the Web for information and research
Provides an overview of and demonstrates effective methods of searching the Internet, as well as how to select and evaluate Internet resources for information and research.
June 7, 2010 (Monday) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Session 4: Managing Your Citations with RefWorks
Demonstrates how to use RefWorks, a web-based bibliography and database manager, to produce bibliographies and in-text references in a variety of citation styles (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc). Two identical sessions will be held on the following dates:
