Program 1: How to Start Effective Search

This workshop provides a foundation for new undergraduate students for their later research at the University and the Library.  It covers concepts, terminology and basic research skills such as understanding reading lists, recognizing the difference between primary and secondary sources, scholarly and popular sources, as well as developing simple search strategies.

Program 2: How to Find Information Sources

Part A: Finding Library Materials
Demonstrates techniques for using the Library Catalogue to locate books, journals, audio-visual materials, and more.

Part B: Using Easy Search: Twice the Results, Half the Time
Introduces the Library's discovery tool, Easy Search, to locate journal articles in various subject areas.

Part C: Using Databases to Find Journal Articles
Introduces advanced and effective database search techniques for finding journal articles and research reports.  This workshop will also demonstrate the use of subject-specific databases.

Part D: Finding E-Books and E-News
Introduces and demonstrates the use of library subscribed e-book collections and e-news databases.

Part E: Effective Internet Search Strategy
Demonstrates how to find quality information on the Internet for your study and research.

Part F: Exercising the Power of Chinese Databases

Program 3: How to Better Manage and Share Your Information

Part A: Managing Reference Citations with RefWorks
Demonstrates how to use RefWorks, a web-based bibliography management tool, to produce bibliographies and in-text references in a variety of citation styles (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.).

Part B: Disseminating and Sharing Information via Internet and Online Data Storage
Learn how to share information safely by understanding the security threat on using Internet and online data storage.
