College Service Team

Activities Organised by the Fifth Service Team (JuneSeptember 2017)

College students starting from our first cohort have each year formed a Service Team. The signature project each year centres around youth, in collaboration with Po Leung Kuk CW Chu College (PLKCWC), in helping teenagers at the cusp of transition to adulthood. Within the project, the keynote event is a summer camp of three days and two nights, in this (the fifth) cycle held from 15 to 17 July 2017, at the Breakthrough Youth Village in Shatin.

The camp was preceded by an ice-breaking session on 3 June 2017 and a pre-camp gathering on 4 July 2017 for our Service Team and the school students to get to know one another, and rounded off in September with a guided tour around CUHK and the closing ceremony.

In addition, the Service Team organised a visit to an elderly home.

Collection of Second-hand Toys for 'Upcycling Funfair'

In collaboration with a local social enterprise Anew Toys, the Sixth Service Team, Servistar, has successfully collected for the 'Toys Upcycling Project' more than 1,000 second-hand toys from fellow College students, teachers, the community of CUHK and the public.

With a combination of creativity and skills, these donated toys were upcycled into meaningful gifts at the 'Toys Upcycling Funfair' on 27 January 2018 (Saturday) at Wo Che Estate, Shatin. Ten students also served as volunteers to empower the children in the toys upcycling workshop and other interesting booth games.

Secret Angel

To reinforce the bonding among fellow College students, the Sixth Service Team, Servistar, has launched its first ever 'Secret Angel' Campaign in the College Hostel. Participants were encouraged to present gifts to their fellow College mates anonymously as an action to co-create an intimate and caring community in the College. More than 30 students took part in this heart-warming activity.
