The Third Executive Committee of the Residents' Association, Concordance, in office since November 2016, has organised a number of activities, the details of which are as follows: Song Dedications on Wednesdays
Concordance hosted a regular Song Dedication Session during communal dinners on Wednesdays. Through their song requests, students expressed, maybe the unwillingness to part with their friends, perhaps anxiety about coming exams, or sometimes even simply the desire to listen to their favourite songs. Concordance itself extended warm wishes to the residents through song dedications on special occasions such as the final exam period. Bonding was enhanced and the dinners spiced up.
Dessert Nights
In order to encourage students to take a break from their heavy academic workload, Concordance organised two Dessert Nights on 20 September and 12 October 2017 in Term 1, 2017–18. The participants were cheered up by the sweet treats and abundant laughter.
Freshmen's O' Night
To facilitate new students' transition to university and hostel lives, Concordance organised an Orientation Night for freshmen on 12 September 2017. Through ice-breaking and collaborative games, the residents got to know one another better, so that they could establish harmonious relationships.
Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering
Concordance organised a gathering on each floor of the hostel on 28 September 2017 to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the residents. Filled with laughter and surprises, the celebration was joined by many students, including incoming exchange students. They enjoyed riddles and games, as well as moon cakes, sweet soup and fruit.
The Handmade Series—Nail Polish Phone Case
Concordance organised a workshop for participants to make nail polish phone cases by hand on 12 October 2017. The student were delighted with their creative works.
The Fourth Executive Committee
The Fourth Executive Committee of the Residents' Association, Calyx, was formed in Term 1, 2017–18. The members are as follows:
Christmas Party: Area 39 Winterland
Calyx held a Christmas Party: Area 39 Winterland on 20 December 2017. As the first activity held by the new cabinet of the Residents' Association, the Christmas party successfully attracted 30 residents with our resident tutors and Prof WONG Suk Ying, Warden of the College Hostel! Enjoying delicious party food and team games, residents deeply soaked up the festive and joyous atmosphere. The evening concluded with Christmas gifts distributed by lucky draw.
Barbecue Night
Having 'start-of-semester' gatherings has long been a tradition for university students, giving a chance for students to celebrate the start of a semester together. Therefore, Calyx held a Barbecue Night on 15 January as a platform for residents to meet with their friends. The BBQ night was such a huge success that the barbecue site was fully occupied!
Song Dedications on Wednesdays
Upholding Concordance's practice, Calyx holds a widely welcomed song dedication session during the communal dinners on Wednesdays regularly. It is a platform for residents to express their thankfulness to someone through song requests. It can help students share their happiness with and give encouragement to one another amidst their hard work, especially during the final exam periods.
Dessert Nights
Calyx holds a Dessert Night monthly with fantastic and featured desserts in order to gather residents. The first Dessert Night was a success, and the Chinese steamed milk pudding, prepared by the committee members, attracted over 30 residents. Moreover, Calyx holds a survey collecting the opinions of the residents regularly in order to cater to their tastes, which is obviously a big challenge but also a great learning opportunity for the committee members. |
