Student Reflection by CHOI Azura Yuk Chin (Year 4) Last summer, I have spent 8 weeks as an intern in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). ASTRI is a Government-funded research-based company, working in various areas such as financial technologies, intelligent manufacturing and medical field. As a Biomedical Engineering student, I am always looking for working opportunity related to the biomedical field, which is still a growing industry in Hong Kong and worldwide. This summer internship program provided exactly what I hoped for. I was assigned to the Opto-electronics Department in the Modules & Integration Division, where researches and development of medical electronics took place. For the first two weeks, my supervisor asked me to review the related technical papers and specifications to familiarize myself with the backgrounds of the researches being carrying out in the department. After that, I had the chances to conduct experiments using various medical devices, to analyze the data collected and to write the experimental report. I had a taste of what commercial applied researches are. The best part of the 8-week period was getting to know my colleagues; they are very friendly and warm. They not only provided me with technical support, but also gave me insights on future career path. It was a very fruitful and valuable experience.
