New Asia College Lecture Series

A. The 30th Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture

Prof. Benjamin A. Elman, Professor of East Asian Studies & History of Princeton University and Gordon Wu '58 Professor of Chinese Studies, will visit New Asia College in early March 2017 to conduct The 30th Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture. Prof. Elman will deliver three lectures in all.

Alumni Reunions (2017)

Reunion gatherings for class 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007 will be held in 2017. These reunions are opportunities for alumni to recapture happy moments of their university life, share recent experiences, and advise the College on future development.

New Asia College Cultural Talks 2016/17 first talk by Prof. Ho Puay-peng

"New Asia College Cultural Talks" is organized by New Asia College and the New Asia College Alumni Association, and co-organized by New Asia Middle School. The first talk was held on 22 October 2016. It was our honor to have Prof. Ho Puay-peng as our speaker. Prof. Ho is the Director of the Centre for Architectural Heritage Research and professor of the School of Architecture.

New Asia College Cultural Talks 2016/17 second talk by Prof. Kwong Kin-hung

"New Asia College Cultural Talks" is organized by New Asia College and the New Asia College Alumni Association, and co-organized by New Asia Middle School. The second talk was held on 14 January 2017. It was our honor to have Prof. Kwong Kin-hung as our speaker. Prof. Kwong is the Honorary Professor of Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Hong Kong Baptist University and the Professor of New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies. The topic of this talk was "Hong Kong New-style Wuxia Novels". It was moderated by Mr. Lam Chi Kong, member of the committee on New Asia College cultural talks.

New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2016/17 second lecture by Mr. Victor Jong and Ms. Juni Yan

The second lecture of the New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2016/17 was held in the Yun Chi Hsien, New Asia College, on 26 October last year. It was our honor to have the partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Consultants (Shenzhen) Limited, Shanghai Branch, Mr. Victor Jong and Managing Director, Hong Kong and Taiwan, F5 Networks, Inc., Ms. Juni Yan as the speakers.  

New Asia Lectures on Confucianism 2016 by Prof. Tsing-song Vincent Shen

With the generous support from the Moonchu Foundation, "New Asia Lectures on Confucianism" was established in 2013. Each year, a distinguished scholar is invited to the College to deliver a series of three public lectures on Confucianism, with the aim of arousing interest among academics and the public.

Yu Ying-Shih Lecture in History 2016 by Prof. Hoyt Cleveland Tillman

Chung Chi College, New Asia College and the Department of History have collaborated in delivering the 'Yu Ying-shih Lecture in History' since 2007 to enhance cultural exchange and academic research. Every year, renowned scholars are invited to give lectures, and the series has gained wide recognition from academics and the public.

Head's List (Merit) / Head 's List (Service) and Student Achievement Commendation Ceremony 2015/16

The Head's List (Merit) / Head's List (Service) and Student Achievement Commendation Ceremony 2015/16 was held on 3 November 2016 at Yun Chi Hsien. The Head's List  awards were established to recognize the outstanding academic performances of College students, while encouraging students to participate in extra-curricular activities and voluntary services. This year 357 students achieved Head's list (Merit) awards, while 26 students gained the Head's list (service) awards.

Genuine Communication – Intensive Training on Presentation and Communication Skills

New Asia College organized workshops on "Genuine Communication – Intensive Training on Presentation and Communication Skills" in November 2016, which were well received by our students and alumni.

Mentorship Programme Inauguration Ceremony 2016/17

The Inauguration Ceremony of Mentorship Programme 2016/17 was held at the New Asia Gymnasium on 29 October 2016.

 

Before the inauguration ceremony starts, mentors received a "mentor briefing session". In the session, the College introduced the program structure to new mentors. It also invited a senior mentor, Mr. Tse Man-shing (1977 /Finance), who has been serving the College as a mentor for many years; as well as a new mentor from last year, Mr. Wong Hoi-ching (1997/ Economics), to share their ways of guiding mentees.

The College's 65th Graduation Ceremony

The College's 65th Graduation Ceremony was held on 17 November 2016 at the University Mall. It is our honor to have Dr. Chan Chi-sun, Chairman of the Convocation of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), member of the Council of the CUHK and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College, to officiate the ceremony for us. This year, a total of 832 graduates were awarded bachelor degrees. 

The 13th Thousand-people Banquet of Hong Kong Asia Lions Club

In collaboration with New Asia College, the thousand-people banquet organized by the Hong Kong Asia Lions Club was held on 5 November 2016 on the New Asia College campus. This was the 13th year that the event has been held in New Asia College. There were ninety-seven tables of guests with more than half of the tables attended by senior citizens.

40-year Reunion of Class 1976

The 40-year Reunion of class 1976 was hosted on 19 November 2016 at Yun Chi Hsien, and over 60 alumni and their families came back to the College and joined us at this joyous event. Ms. Tse Kam (1976/Chinese Language and Literature) and Mr. Yeung Kai Chiu (1976/Business Administration) were the MCs for the day, and have invited a number of fellow classmates to share on the joyful times in the old days. Former Head of New Asia College and former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK Prof. Ambrose King, who once taught the class of '76, also attended this memorable gathering. Participants took the opportunity to revisit the campus, including going to the New Asia History Gallery, and finding their names engraved on the graduate plaques at New Asia Concourse.

CUHK Alumni Homecoming 2016

CUHK Alumni Homecoming was held on 26 November 2016. Activities included tour to visit new colleges, game booths, children activities and a souvenir market. The game stall hosted by New Asia College Alumni Association (NACAA) was popular among alumni and kids.

The Winter Solstice and Christmas Party

The New Asia College Staff Association organized this annual event for the celebration of the Winter Solstice and Christmas on December 21, 2016 at Yun Chi Hsien. More than 100 members enjoyed a joyful party together.

 

Game booths were set up in the table tennis room, with a highlight being the hamper weight-guessing game.  After Prof. Lee Jyh-An, the chairperson of the Staff Association delivered a welcome speech, the participants enjoyed a delicious lunch buffet and an exciting Lucky Draw.

CUHK Golf Day

"The 12th CUHK Golf Day 2016" was held on 9 January 2017 at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. New Asia College Alumni Golf Association saw excellent results and won the Second Runner-up of "CUHK Team Open - Best Net", the First Runner-up of "CU Cup - Best Net" of Team Prizes, "Nearest-to-the-Pin" (NA - Mr Simon Pun) as well as the Longest Drive (Men) (NA - Mr Poon Yan-cham, Eric) of the Individual Prizes.

It is our sincere wish, sent out to New Asia Alumni and friends, that everyone can improve even more and strive for more awards, to raise funds for the sake of New Asia College's long-term development.
