Internship Opportunities for Summer 2020
In summer 2020, around 20 internship opportunities were sourced for our students from six companies/ organisations, mainly in the fields of engineering, programming, and research and development. Two offers were taken up by current students, Ms QIAO Hanying (Year 5, Systems Engineering and Engineering Management) and Ms ZENG Meiqi (Year 4, Financial Technology).

They were open for application in April 2021.Teach For Hong Kong Fellowship Program Information SessionAn online information session was hosted by Ms Rachael CHUANG, Brand and Growth Executive, Teach For Hong Kong, on 24 February 2021 to introduce to our students its Fellowship Program, which targets Cantonese speaking university graduates in all majors. Ms Percy LEE, an alumna of the College who joined the Program upon graduation in 2020, shared her fruitful teaching experience in a local secondary school under the Program. The session attracted students in the graduating class, and also those students in junior years. Teach For Hong Kong is a non-profit organisation committed to bringing education equity to Hong Kong. Through its one-year Fellowship Program, it nurtures university graduates as future leaders to enrich underprivileged students' learning experience both inside and outside of classrooms.To learn more about the organisation and its Fellowship Program, please visit its website.Workshops on Getting Ready for the WorkplaceSpeakers Series—Learn from Professionals and an AlumnusThe annual Speakers Series aims to encourage junior students, especially those in Year 1, to have early plans for the workplace. This year, the workshop was conducted online due to the pandemic, and was broken up into two evening sessions to reduce students' online learning fatigue.In Session 1 on 11 March 2021, as an introduction of the workshop, Prof Kenneth YOUNG, member of the College Mentorship and Internship Committee, urged the students to identify and have a plan to fill the gaps between their present competencies and job requirements at different levels in their intended professions. He also reminded the students to be conscious of the differences between school and work environments. The second speaker, Ms Ivy KWOK, Executive Officer, Career Planning and Development Centre, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), guided the students on how to plan their careers step-by-step. She also pointed the students to various career guidance programmes and resources provided by OSA to facilitate their career planning, such as the CUHK Mentorship Programme and online talks on the workplace in other countries.In Session 2 on 17 March 2021, Mr Wilfred WONG, Founder and Managing Director, RESOLUTIONS HR & Business Consultancy Co. Ltd., enlightened the students about employers' expectations of junior employees, which he summarised in nine Chinese characters. Most of them were concerned with proper habits and attitudes in the workplace. Mr Matthew LI, a member of the Class of 2019 majoring in Global Economics and Finance and currently Global Digital Graduate Trainee at HSBC, was also invited to share his graduate job application experience. He gave tips on how to stand out from other candidates in different job application procedures and how to shine at work after onboarding.Workshop on CV WritingThe Workshop on CV Writing was conducted online on 25 March 2021. The instructor, Ms Tessa STEWART, guided the students on what to include in their CVs by introducing the concepts of keywords and transferable skills, and displaying examples of good CVs. To help the students get more job opportunities under the pandemic, she explained in the second half of the workshop the importance and effectiveness of networking in job search and encouraged the students to enhance the skills to raise their competitiveness. She also invited Mr HAN Liming, a member of the Class of 2019 who majored in Cell and Molecular Biology, to share his own job search and networking experiences. Students were encouraged to submit their draft/ revised CVs to Ms STEWART for post-workshop online coaching.To the Workplace Programme 2020Workshop on CV WritingFor details about the workshop conducted on 30 September 2020, please refer to Page 56 of the Report of the Master 2020.Pairing Workplace Mentors and MenteesUnder the Programme 2020, matching the participants with workplace mentors from their intended fields was deferred from Term 2, 2019–20 to Term 2, 2020–21 because of the pandemic. Thanks to the personal network of Prof Peter LAI, former Secretary for Security, HKSARG and currently Adjunct Professor, Department of Politics and Public Administration, The University of Hong Kong, workplace mentors were sourced and the matching was completed in February 2021.
