The College congratulates our members on receiving the following awards for their outstanding achievements:

General Education Best Essay Awards 2018–19

Mr CHAN Kwan Yu (Year 3, Global Economics and Finance) and Mr YEUNG Ting Long (Year 3, Japanese Studies) received Honorary Mentions in the General Education Best Essay Award 2018–19 for their outstanding essays in the course ‘In Dialogue with Humanity’.


Outstanding Students Awards 2020

The Fifth Executive Committee of the College Residents' Association was selected by CUHK as recipient of the Outstanding Students Awards 2020 in the category ‘Social Service (for the CUHK Community)’, and three College students were selected in the category ‘Sports’.

General Education Best Essay Awards 2019–20

Mr WAN Yuxuan (Year 2, Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies) was granted the General Education Best Essay Award 2019–20 (Silver Award), for his outstanding work entitled ‘On Happiness—A Comparison of Views of Happiness in The Nicomachean Ethics and the Zhuangzi' (《論幸福——〈尼各馬可倫理學〉與〈莊子〉的幸福觀比較》) in the course ‘In Dialogue with Humanity’.

Mr KO Hon Ching (Year 2, Medicine) and Ms WONG Hoi Lam (Year 2, Biomedical Engineering) received Honorary Mentions in the Awards for their outstanding essays in the course ‘In Dialogue with Nature’.

Morningside College Photography Competition 2021: Second Prize in Category

Ms SONG Yuetong (Year 4, Professional Accountancy) won the Second Prize in the category ‘Resilience’ in Morningside College Photography Competition 2021.

Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation Meritorious Research Award

Prof Sunny WONG, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, received the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation Meritorious Research Award and was named the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation Scholar in October 2020, for the groundbreaking findings in a study that he led—certain bacteria in blood can promote the formation of colorectal cancer, and therefore, these bacteria can be detected in blood to predict colorectal cancer in patients. This study has been published in world-renowned medical journal of Gastroenterology.

Established in 2018, the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation Meritorious Research Awards aim to recognise ‘selected young clinician scientists who have achieved excellence in medical research output with publications in top tier reputable medical journals’.

Croucher Innovation Award 2020

Prof KO Ho, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, received the Croucher Innovation Award 2020 from The Croucher Foundation for his outstanding achievement in neuroscience research. It will sponsor Prof KO's team to study the roles of glial and vascular cell dysfunction in the pathogenesis of age-related neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, with the aim of identifying new disease modifying therapeutics.

The Croucher Innovation Awards aim 'to identify a small number of exceptionally talented scientists working at an internationally competitive level and to offer substantial support to these "rising stars" at a formative stage in their careers.' The scheme is 'designed to enable recipients to pursue their own scientific, intellectual and professional inclinations, to advance their expertise, to engage in bold new work, and to contribute to the development of education and research in Hong Kong.' The award carries a value of HK$5 million over 5 years.

Teachers of the Years Award 2021

Prof JIANG Yuanan, Professor of Practice in Chinese Medicine, School of Chinese Medicine, received the Teachers of the Years Award 2021 from the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK, for his exemplary teaching performance and significant contribution to teaching and learning.

The Award was presented to Prof JIANG at the virtual Teachers' and Students' Awards Presentation Ceremony 2021 on 27 February 2021.
