Toastmasters Club Taster Sessions

The Toastmasters Club Taster Sessions have been organised by the College with the assistance of our student coordinators, to encourage College students to improve public speaking skills in a casual and supportive environment through group activities, prepared or impromptu speeches, and peer sharing and evaluation.

Five online sessions were held in Term 1 and four in Term 2, 2020–21. The student coordinators, Mr LEUNG Wai Jid Joshua (Year 3, Medicine), Ms YANG Siyuan Isabel (Year 4, Translation) and Mr YAU Adam Ching Yiu (Year 3, Quantitative Finance), tried to make the online sessions more interesting by conducting warm-up games and playing videos of great speeches. Ms Tessa STEWART, Honorary Advisor of the United College Toastmasters Club, joined some sessions in both terms as General Evaluator to give feedback to participants.

Thanks to the connection of Ms Isabel YANG, Session 4 on 4 March 2021 became a joint meeting with the New Asia College Toastmasters Club (NATMC). The participants of both Colleges got acquainted with one another through the icebreaker games hosted by Mr Joshua LEUNG. They also learnt from the sharing of Mr Wilson YAU, Director of Toastmasters International District 89, about features of a good speech and ways to improve public speaking skills. The participants tried to put Mr YAU's tips into practice when they delivered impromptu speeches on the theme ‘Time Management’.
