Seven students enrolled in this Centre’s “Fitness x Mentorship” Scheme, together with their sports partners (all from Lee Yen & Lee Yuk Lun, BBS, JP, Father & Son Lohas Villa, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals), took part in the TWGHs “iRun” - The Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2020 on the 12th of this month. The event, which attracted a total of 4,400 participants, aims to encourage the intellectual disabled to practise sports. It is also hoped to achieve inclusion of people with different abilities.
The event was held in the morning at the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) and Lung Wo Road. Our students served as pair-up runners to offer support to their partners throughout the marathon. Two of the pairs joined the “Challenge Group”, whereas the other five were registered under the “iRun Group”. All of them have successfully completed the 3K race within the designated time, and were very happy with the results. They attributed their success to the 3-month intensive training conducted before the event. This training did strengthen their bodies and enable them to get well-prepared for the race.
The “Fitness x Mentorship” Scheme not only encourages CUHK students to develop a regular exercise habit, but also enhances their understanding of various members of the community through the forming of friendship. This scheme will continue to roll out a number of sports activities in the coming months. Please visit here for details.
