Any Upgrade / Updates Needed for Your Computer / Server?

ITSC regularly reviews the IT product lifecycle and make recommendation to department IT support via emails or University Software Standards. In this article, we will summarize what changes are recommended or compulsory to you.

  1. For PC / University owned computers

    1. Windows 11 replaces Windows 10 as the Recommended Operating System (OS) in University Software Standards

With the wide adoption of Windows 11 and the planned end-of-support of Windows 10 in 2025, Windows 11 now becomes the recommended OS.  Among productivity and security enhancements, it provides to users with a modern yet familiar experience.  To understand more about Windows 11, please check our training materials!

    2. The connectivity of Microsoft 365 services on Office 2016 and Office 2019 Will Be End of Support

After 10 Oct 2023 (Tue), the connectivity of Office 2016 and Office 2019 to various Microsoft 365 services such as email services, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and other latest features is not supported. We recommend colleagues upgrade to the recommended software, Microsoft Office 365 for enterprise, for the best experience.
  2. For Server

Windows Server 2012 R2 will reach its end of support on 10 Oct 2023 (Tue).  As announced earlier among department IT support, IT administrators should plan the migration as soon as possible.  After the support end date, ITSC will block Windows Server 2012 R2 from accessing the campus network.

Please consult your department IT support if in doubt.
