On 17 August 2011, Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Prof. Yang Huanming, President of BGI signed a memorandum of understanding on clinical genomics collaboration. The MOU was signed under the witness of Mr. Li Keqiang, Vice-Premier of the State Council, and Mr. Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Prof. H.K. Ng, Associate Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Mr. Yang Guohua, Division of Science and Technology of BGI and Mr. Alex Wong, Executive Director of BGI-Hong Kong Co., Ltd. attended the signing ceremony.

On 19 August, an 11-member delegation led by Ms. Chen Xiaoya, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The purpose was to understand the research development of the University as well as its State Key Laboratories (SKLs). Apart from the delegates from MOST, the delegation comprised representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (LOCPG) and Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) including Mr. Cao Guoying, Deputy Director General of Education, Science and Technology Department, LOCPG, and Dr. Cecilia Pang, Biotechnology Director of ITC.

A delegation composed of 46 students and 17 teachers from Beichuan High School of Sichuan, and 20 volunteers from Breakthrough Organization visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 10 August 2011. The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Joseph Sung, the Vice-Chancellor.

The Universiade 2011 was held in Shenzhen from 12-23 August. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the opening ceremony of the Universiade and the World University Presidents Forum.

On 26 August 2011, a 4-member delegation led by Prof. Wang Wenbin, Vice-President of Ningbo University (Ningda) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). CUHK warmly welcomed the delegation and an agreement for academic collaboration between the two universities was signed during the visit.

A 6-member delegation led by Prof. Lan Siren, President of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) visited CUHK on 29 August 2011. During the visit, a collaboration agreement on life sciences was signed between the two universities.

The Summer Research Placement Programme for Mainland and Taiwan Postgraduate Students organized by the Office of Academic Links (China) was held from 20 June to 14 August at Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).  First launched in 2008, the program aimed to encourage exchange between research students in Hong Kong and Mainland China, and enhance collaboration with universities in mainland China. For the first time, postgraduates from the Taiwan's institutions were invited to the programme.

This summer, over 100 CUHK students participated in exchange tours to Mainland China and Taiwan through the coordination of the Office of Academic Links (China). These tours were hosted by various universities and institutions including Beihang University, Central South University, Chongqing University, Fudan University, He　Fei University of Technology, Nanjing University, Shaanxi Normal University, Southwest University, Xiamen University, and Taiwan Central University and Wu Ta-you Foundation.

- A 6-member delegation led by Prof. Zhao Junhai, Vice-President of Chang'an University visited CUHK on 2 August 2011. The delegation met with Prof. Fung Tung, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Office of Academic Links (China) to learn about the University's recent development. The delegates were given a tour of the university campus thereafter.
