I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project: Year Recap

The I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project of this academic year is almost concluded.  Although the participating CUHK students could not arrange guided tours for the secondary school students owing to the spike of COVID-19, they led two trips featuring “The Grassroots’ Lives in West Island” and “Inheritance and Preservation of Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage” on the 27th of last month and the 12th of this month respectively for CUHK members.  A total of 42 students and staff made it to these trips.

As in previous years, students have to receive a series of training and be accompanied by experienced instructors to conduct mock tours at the districts pertaining to the aforesaid themes (Sai Ying Pun and Jordan) before acting as formal docents.  Affected by the social events, not all scheduled training activities were held.  The successful ones could, however, facilitate the students’ acquisition of necessary knowledge.  As for the mock tours, students formed groups to play the docent role and took turns to lead the tours for their counterparts, through which they practised the presentation skills and were able to review the tour routes.  To draw an end to the project of this academic year, the students will soon attend a sharing session organised by this Centre to review and exchange their tour guiding experience and gains with the fellow participants.

Besides, to preserve and promote the unique culture, history and attractions of Hong Kong, participants of the I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project of each year design and produce maps according to their selected tour routes.  For those done for the last academic year, they will be placed in the following spots for free collection from 24 August to 23 October 2020:
