We are pleased to bring to you Issue 13 of the College Newsletter, which summarizes the events and achievements from Jan 2016 onwards. The fourth academic year has seen remarkable progress. Our community has organized more events since becoming full-fledged. We shall soon see our first graduates starting a new chapter in their lives, furthering their studies or entering the workforce. We owe much to our friends and are pleased to share the story of our vibrant community with them.

Award
Prof Tjonnie Guang Feng Li, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, is one of the team members sharing in the 2016 Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, for their observation of gravitational waves, opening new horizons in astronomy and physics.

Prof Tjonnie Guang Feng Li, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, has joined CW Chu College as an affiliate, with effect from 26 February 2016.

High Table Dinner: Mr Peter Ho-Sun Chan on Movies and Diversity
|
Mr Peter Ho-Sun Chan, one of the world's leading Chinese filmmakers, graced us with his presence as the Guest of Honour at the College's Third High Table Dinner (2015–16) held on 20 January 2016. Students welcomed and greeted the distinguished guest as he marched in along tables lit with candles, accompanied by Ms Sandra Ng, famous local actress.

The First Graduating Class and Photo Day
|
The College is pleased to see the first graduating class soon to complete their studies. These young scholars, including both students in the founding cohort and a small number admitted with advanced standing in 2013, will soon leave CUHK and the College to embark upon various careers or to pursue further studies. To record this memorable milestone, and to wish these students the best in the days ahead, the first Photo Day of CW Chu College was held on 11 March 2016.

Launch Ceremony for the Mentorship Scheme and Presentation of Scholarships and Certificates 2015–16
|
The Launch Ceremony for the Mentorship Scheme and Presentation of Scholarships and Certificates 2015–16 was held on 19 March 2016 (Saturday). Mr David Chu, Chairman of the Committee of Overseers, officiated at the Ceremony, which was attended by over a hundred participants, including scholarship donors, mentors and mentees, guests and friends of CWC, College affiliates, parents, as well as award and certificate recipients.

Sharing on the Prof Julie Yu Scholarship
Mr Kevin Cheung, Year 4 student majoring in Business Administration and winner of The Professor Julie Hung Hsua Yu Scholarship for Intellectual Excel-leration in the academic year 2014–2015, shared his successful story with fellow students on 26 January 2016, to encourage them to apply for the scholarship and to excel in creativity.

Incoming Exchange Students (Term 2, 2015–16)
|
A new batch of 15 incoming exchange students joined the College family in Term 2, 2015–16. They came from universities in Canada, the rest of China, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, The Netherlands, and USA.

The Third Representative Council and Executive Council
|
The Third Representative Council, The Student Union of CW Chu College, CUHK, passed a motion on 8 March 2016 and announced on 9 March 2016 that no Executive Council had been elected for the third term since the minimum requirement of the number of officers for the Executive Committee was not met.

Language and Culture Enhancement Programmes

Greek Mythology Workshops by Prof Frederick Cheung
On 18 Feb, 25 Feb and 3 Mar 2016, Prof Frederick Cheung Hok Ming from the Department of History, CUHK, gave three intellectually rich workshops on Greek Mythology that featured etymology, literature, and culture surrounding the legacy of Greek myths. A total of 50 participants came to hear about the mystery of an ancient culture, and to find themselves carried away in a sweep of great names and the stories they told.

Sports
|
The 12th CUHK Rowing Championships
The Men's and Women's Rowing Teams, composed mostly of new members, competed in the 12th CUHK Rowing Championships in the respective 1,000-metre events along Shing Mun River in Shatin on 10 January 2016. They were cheered by the College Master, the Dean of Students and fellow students.

A Journey in the Dark Opens the Eyes
To raise students' awareness about the visually challenged and cultivate within them a spirit of goodwill for the community at large, the College organized a visit on 27 February 2016 to Dialogue in the Dark.

AIESEC Internships Information Session
AIESEC in CUHK delivered an information session on global internship experiences on 8 March 2016. The session introduced the vision of AIESEC and the recruitment procedure, with a sharing by a returnee who has completed an internship in Africa.
