Lingnan Culture Studies Research Paper Competition 2022 Award Ceremony
The Lingnan Culture Studies Research Paper Competition 2022 Award Ceremony was broadcast on Zoom on 20 April 2023, drew around a hundred viewers across the globe. The Competition aims to promote international academic research on Lingnan culture, as well as to encourage local and overseas doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows who are aspiring to conduct in-depth research in the field. The competition received up to 50 research papers, which were assessed by the selection committee. At the ceremony, Prof. Ching May Bo, Head and Professor of the Department of Chinese and History of the City University of Hong Kong, was invited as the keynote speaker to deliver a talk on an interesting topic “The Lychee is ‘hot’ and the Star Fruit tastes subtle: multiple interpretations of Lingnan local products”. Public Lecture Series 2023
The Research Programme for Lingnan Culture, Institute of Chinese Studies organised two public lectures under the “Research Programme for Lingnan Culture: Public Lecture Series 2023”.
The first talk was delivered by Prof. Mak George Kam Wah, Assistant Professor, Department of Religion and Philosophy, Hong Kong Baptist University. He spoke on the topic “Chung Wing Kwong and the Lingnan University in Guangzhou” on 3 April.
The second talk was presented by Prof. Ye Jia, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Linguistics and Translation, City University of Hong Kong. She spoke on the topic “From A Dictionary of the Chinese Language to Canton Newspapers: Kwong Ki Chiu’s Bilingual World” on 24 April.
The lecture series drew around 80 CUHK colleagues and students, alumni and members of the public. Many insightful comments and questions were raised during the discussion sessions.
