Prof. Tian Wei – 漫談《北山汲古——中國璽印》的編寫工作
On 2 June 2023, ICS Luncheon invited Prof. Tian Wei, to deliver a talk on China’s State-owned Enterprises and
its reformation.

Prof. Tian Wei is a doctoral supervisor and professor of the Department of Chinese, Sun Yat-sen University. He specialises in the research of ancient texts and excavated classics and his research findings were published as《古 璽探研》,《西周金文字詞關係研究》and《出土戰國文獻字詞集釋》 (co-authored). Prof. Tian received the First-class Lü Shuxiang Linguistics Award of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the First-class Thesis Award of the Gushan Zhengyin Xiling Yinshe International Seal Studies Summit. Being a member of Xiling Seal Art Society and China Calligraphers Association, Prof. Tian has a strong research interest in Chinese calligraphy, as well as the art of Chinese seal carving.

During the Luncheon, Prof. Tian Wei introduced his work in the Art Museum catalogue, “The Bei Shan Tang Legacy”. The project was launched in July 2021, with the aim of examining and documenting the 1,873 pieces of Chinese seals donated by the Bei Shan Tang Foundation. Prof. Tian pointed out that the collection can only be completed by distinguishing the materials, usage and form, together with recording their weight, size and origin, and tracing the background of the seals with reference to historical records and folklore knowledge.
