Greek Mythology Workshops by Prof Frederick Cheung

On 18 Feb, 25 Feb and 3 Mar 2016, Prof Frederick Cheung Hok Ming from the Department of History, CUHK, gave three intellectually rich workshops on Greek Mythology that featured etymology, literature, and culture surrounding the legacy of Greek myths. A total of 50 participants came to hear about the mystery of an ancient culture, and to find themselves carried away in a sweep of great names and the stories they told.

Be they heroes, demons, gods or goddesses, these figures brought the audience through a trip back in time to the cradle of many literary allusions — Archilles, Hercules, Odysseus, Prometheus and many others. Students not only learnt the roots of some English words and expressions, but shared in the love and sorrow of these ancients who exhibited real, humanly emotions. Students also enjoyed a selection of Greek-style drinks and snacks.

Social English Workshops

The College organized three sessions of Social English Workshop in January to enhance students' English for different social occasions. Mr Brian MacLean, the facilitator, acquainted students with colloquial expressions and encouraged them to make communication more interactive. They enjoyed wine and cheese afterwards and a hearty exchange in English.
