| MAJOR PAST EVENTS 2010 Academic Symposium on Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases |

Co-organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Medical Department and Division of Life Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and jointly coordinated by the Office of Academic Links (China) and the School of Biomedical Sciences, the 2010 Academic Symposium on Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases was successfully held on 19 and 20 October 2010. The Symposium was officiated by guests of honors including Prof. Yan Shen (沈岩院士), Vice President of National Natural Science Foundation of China and Academician, The Chinese Academy of Sciences; Mr. Jinqiang Mo (莫錦強副部長), Deputy Director-General of Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; and Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. More than 50 prominent scholars in the field of biomedical sciences from the mainland and Hong Kong attended the Symposium. Prior to the sharing of the 18 talks on developmental studies in heath and diseases, 2 keynote lectures were delivered by Prof. Xue Zhang (張學教授), Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Prof. Dennis Lo, Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Medicine, CUHK. Academics from the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Hong Kong, the Division of Life Sciences of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Department of Biology and Chemistry of the City University of Hong Kong, together with clinical representative from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, CUHK also delivered talks during the event. The Symposium served as a platform for participants to share their research discoveries in developmental studies in health and diseases. It also enabled establishment of stronger academic link among scientists of the participating institutes and universities. |
