‘Completed Buildings — Civic and Community’ Category Award at World Architecture Festival 2019

Prof Peter W FERRETTO, Associate Professor, School of Architecture, and his team Condition_Lab received the Award for a rural architecture project — a library opened in December 2018 for children in a Dong minority village Gaobu in Hunan Province, namely The Gaobu Book House.

As a collaborative work with local villagers and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Guangzhou University, the two-storey Book House has revitalised the local Dong community. It serves as an educational facility for local children to learn through reading, playing and interacting with peers. It also enhances the cohesion of the rural community as the children no longer spend most of their leisure time online. Apart from catering to local needs, the project is a creative combination of traditional Dong house building techniques and modern architectural concepts and skills, which greatly impresses the judges.

For more details about Prof FERRETTO and Condition_Lab's winning project, please refer to the Press Release by the Communications and Public Relations Office of CUHK.
