CWC Thanksgiving Party
On Thanksgiving people get together with family and friends to give thanks for things that have happened throughout the year. Five incoming exchange students from the United States (including Mr BLODGETT Samuel Lindsey and Mr MULCAHY Ryan Patrick from American University, and Ms BERGER Elana Carrie, Ms FERGUSON Rebecca Anne and Ms HENSLEY Summer Leigh from the University of South Carolina) hosted a delightful Thanksgiving Party on 25 November 2021 to celebrate this occasion with fellow College students. A total of 43 College members, including the College Master (Prof Suk-Ying Wong), Chair of the External Links and Exchange Committee (Prof Andrew Chan), Warden (Ms Wendy Li), resident tutors, students and College staff, joined the content-rich event.
The hosts started with introducing the traditions and customs, as well as recent trends of celebrations (such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday) of Thanksgiving in the US. A Kahoot game with multiple choice questions related to Thanksgiving was played, and the top three scorers were presented a gift by Prof Andrew Chan.
A classic American cartoon, namely A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, was then recommended to intrigue the participants to explore more about the fascinating Thanksgiving culture. Two free workshops on drawing finger turkeys and making corn husk dolls were also conducted which gave participants a taste of what American kids would do at school and at home for celebrating Thanksgiving.
The highlight of this event was the carving of a whole roast turkey with meshed chestnut stuffing and cranberry sauce by the College Master and Committee Chair. Drinks and 60 takeaway meal boxes with roast chicken, baby carrots, mashed potatoes and pecan tarts were arranged for party participants.
Virtual Welcoming Session for Incoming Exchange Students (7 January 2022)
