The 90th Congregation (Conferment of Bachelor's Degrees) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong cum Graduation Ceremony of CW Chu College 2020–21

4 November 2021 saw the sixth batch of graduates celebrating the completion of their University programmes on their Graduation Day. With most COVID-19 safety practices still in place, the conferment of Degrees took the form of decentralised ceremonies, held separately by the nine Colleges and the eight Faculties to avoid mass gathering on campus. Under this arrangement, a total of 43 graduates attended the 90th Congregation (Conferment of Bachelor's Degrees) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong cum Graduation Ceremony of CW Chu College 2020–21. Live broadcast was arranged for the 60 guests, who were families and guests of the graduates.

The ceremony was presided over by Prof Wai-Yee CHAN, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, in Chong Kin Wo Hall, with the support of the Communications and Public Relations Office (including its Audio-Visual Division), the Estate Management Office and the Security and Transport Office.

The Ceremony started off with the Opening Remarks by Prof Suk-Ying WONG, the College Master. She thanked the graduates for coming back to bring gala and sunshine to the College, and congratulated them for completing their studies by diligence and perseverance. She said that the last 20 months of abrupt changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic was just a rehearsal of students' lifetime journey. In the face of uncertainties in life, the graduates were reminded to make sagacious assessment of what is worthy of attention and to stay vigilant at all times.

Mr MING Jinhao (Integrated BBA Programme) then delivered a speech on behalf of the graduating class. Looking back upon his College life, he thanked the Founding Master, Prof Kenneth YOUNG, for encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone. He actively participated in various activities and programmes since then, including the Peer Mentoring Program. He also thanked the College for shaping him into a global citizen by organising Cultural Nights, Social English Workshops, Exchange Programmes and so on, in which he developed enduring friendship with other international students. He expressed his deep gratitude to all the people who had guided and supported him during his College life. He also encouraged the Class of 2021 to keep on shining after getting through the tough times in the last two years.

After the speeches, Professor Suk-Ying WONG, the College Master, presented candidates to the Presiding Officer for the conferment of degrees. Prof Wai-Yee CHAN, the Presiding Officer, then made a ‘capping’ gesture to each candidate. The graduates took individual photos with Prof Wai-Yee CHAN afterwards.

The Ceremony was followed by a photo-taking session in which the graduates were joined by College affiliates and invited guests. It ended with the declaration of closing of the Congregation cum Graduation ceremony by Prof Wai-Yee CHAN, the Presiding Officer.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021 on completing their undergraduate studies at CUHK!
