College Orientation (Term 1, 2021–22)

Orientation Activities for Non-local Students (27 August and 3 September 2021)

New international students were welcomed on 27 August 2021 in a virtual Orientation Camp organised by the International Student Association (ISA). A greeting video pre-recorded by Prof Suk-Ying WONG, College Master, was presented at this session. In the video, Prof WONG encouraged new students to reach out to our College members during their stay in Hong Kong.

With the coordination of CWC representative of the Mainland Undergraduate Association (MUA) DAI Zijie (Year 3, Computer Science), the College arranged a Greeting Session for New Mainland Students on 3 September 2021, with the presence of the College Master, Dean of Students, Warden, Prof Wai-Yee CHAN and Prof Kenneth YOUNG. This session aimed to introduce the basic information, campus environment and hostel facilities to the Mainland students.

College Orientation Camp (31 August – 2 September 2021)

The College Orientation Camp (O' Camp) is usually organised every summer on the College campus, for both local and non-local Year 1 students to induct them to the new environment and blend in with the College community.

In summer 2021, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, overnight camp and off-campus activities were not allowed. Therefore, the College orientation for new students was turned into a one-day virtual event plus a two-day on-campus programme from 31 August to 2 September 2021.

The O' Camp kicked off with a Virtual Opening Ceremony, with Prof Suk-Ying WONG, College Master, delivering a welcome speech and Prof Vincent CHEUNG, Dean of Students, sharing with new students his own orientation experience at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Ms IP Tsz Yau Anna (Year 2. Nursing), President of the CWC O' Camp 2021, extended a warm welcome to all freshmen on this occasion.

During the two-day on-campus activities, new students experienced a variety of activities such as detective games, small group time and CU hunt to get close with their Jobama and groupmates.

For details about the College Orientation Camp, please refer to Pages 37–40 of the Report of the Master 2021.

Extended Orientation (10, 17 and 24 September 2021)

The Extended Orientation is a series of four sessions organised for Year 1 students on the first few Fridays in September every year. It is part of the College's non-credit bearing General Education Programme (GECW1000), supplementing the Orientation Camp/ activities run by the students themselves. It covers various topics essential for college and university life, providing freshmen with guidance and support, and facilitating their transition to university life.

In light of the slowdown in the pandemic, physical sessions of the Extended Orientation  resumed in Term 1, 2021–22. The 3-day Orientation sessions included a comprehensive introduction of CW Chu College, Honour Code Pledging Ceremony, sharing by Student Associations, as well as talks held by the I-Care Centre for Whole-person Development, the Committee Against Discrimination and Sexual Harassment and ICAC.
