On 17 August 2011, Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Prof. Yang Huanming, President of BGI signed a memorandum of understanding on clinical genomics collaboration. The MOU was signed under the witness of Mr. Li Keqiang, Vice-Premier of the State Council, and Mr. Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Prof. H.K. Ng, Associate Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Mr. Yang Guohua, Division of Science and Technology of BGI and Mr. Alex Wong, Executive Director of BGI-Hong Kong Co., Ltd. attended the signing ceremony.
According to the MOU, the two parties will strengthen cooperation on genomics research and development. Genomics testing will be conducted in the clinical genomic laboratory based in Prince of Wales Hospital. The two parties will work together on clinical genomics testing for the causes and treatments of diseases prevalent in South East Asia and Hong Kong.
