Wei Lun Professor of Statistics – Prof. Poon Wai Yin

 

Prof. Poon Wai Yin has been appointed by the University as the Wei Lun Professor of Statistics for three years, effective 1 August 2023, in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements.


Silver Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2023 – Prof. Phillip Yam and his team

Prof. Phillip Yam, Cheng Pok-him (MPhil in RMSC), Ross Sun (BSc in STAT) and his team developed a novel fintech tool that allows for effective modelling of the dependence structure among various feature variables through organised treatments, resulting in superior performance.

The tool, referred to as the Comonotone-independent Bayes Classifier (CIBer), won the Silver Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2023.

The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is the largest global exhibition devoted exclusively to inventions. All the exhibited inventions are evaluated by an international jury of specialists. This year’s exhibition showcased over 1,000 inventions from 40 countries and regions.

Prof. Chan Kin Wai received the University Education Award (Early Career Faculty Members) for 2022–23.


Educational Impact – Silver Award at the Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo 2022 – Prof. Chan Kin Wai

Prof. Chan Kin Wai attended the poster presentation at the Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo 2022, which was held from 14 to 16 December 2022, and received the Educational Impact – Silver Award for his e-learning platform (https://www1.sta.cuhk.edu.hk/stady/).

Every year the poster awards recognise the best efforts in teaching and learning in higher education, research, poster designs and presentations at the annual Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo.
