“Enchanting Expeditions” Wednesday Lecture Series
Sponsored by the GS Charity Foundation, the fifth and sixth lecture of the “Enchanting Expeditions” Wednesday Lectures Series were held during November and December 2021. The lectures were delivered in the Activities room, 2/F, East Wing, Art Museum, CUHK, and were also broadcast on Zoom. The fifth lecture “Imari Wares Designated for European Market in 17th to 18th Century” was presented by Dr. Kobayashi Hitoshi (Chief Curator, The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka) on 24 November 2021. The sixth lecture on “Jingdezhen to the World: Chinese Export Porcelain from the Late Ming Dynasty” was given by Dr. Teresa Canepa (Independent Researcher, London) on 8 December 2021. The two lectures attracted 185 participants and 1,446 online video views.
Lunchtime Concert: Cantonese Narrative Songs on Guangdong’s Arts & Culture
The Institute of Chinese Studies and the Art Museum of CUHK co-organised a lunchtime concert on 14 December 2021 at ICS Courtyard, in which The Gong Strikes One and Dr. Ho Pik Ki, Peggy (Research Fellow of the Art Museum, CUHK) performed traditional Cantonese narrative songs, inviting audience to travel back in time and enjoy Guangdong’s century of arts and culture. The concert attracted 96 participants and got a big round of applause.

“Art Encounters” Video SeriesFrom November 2021 to January 2022, the Art Museum released three episodes of the “Art Encounters” video series sponsored by the Lo Kwee Seong Foundation. Guests from different walks of life were invited to share their views on the treasures of the exhibition “Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelains across the Globe” with Dr. Wang Guanyu, Samantha (Associate Curator (Antiquities) of the Art Museum, CUHK). The guest of the first episode “Canton Enamel” and the second episode “Armorial Porcelains” is Mr. Joseph Tso, the third successor of Yuet Tung China Works, which is now the last hand-painted porcelain producer in Hong Kong. These two episodes were released on 25 November 2021 and 29 December 2021 respectively.
The Art Museum and the Alumni Affairs Office of CUHK jointly presented the third episode “Ceramics in the Waves” on 26 January 2022, in which the CUHK alumnus Mr. Anthony Ngai (General Committee Member of Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club) shared his thoughts on sailing and porcelain. The three episodes have attracted 7,700 views so far.
“Artistic Crosscurrents from Guangdong” Lecture Series
Generously sponsored by the GS Charity Foundation, the “Artistic Crosscurrents from Guangdong” Lecture Series is co-organised by the Art Museum and the University Library of CUHK between February and April. The first and the second lecture were only broadcast on Zoom due to the severe situation of the pandemic. The first lecture was given by Dr. Tong Yu, Sam (Associate Curator of the Art Museum, CUHK) on 23 February 2022 (Friday). The second lecture was given by Dr. Liang Jiyong (Expert on Guangdong Studies) on 4 March 2022 (Friday). The two lectures attracted 178 participants.
“Artistic Crosscurrents from Guangdong” E-cards and Mobile Wallpapers
The Art Museum released three different styles of e-cards on 22 February 2022 (Tuesday) and encouraged people to cheer their loved ones up with the e-cards amid the pandemic. Apart from the e-cards, the Art Museum also created mobile wallpapers inspired by the exhibits of “Artistic Crosscurrents from Guangdong” which can be personalised by adding text after downloading.

Art Times, Issue 1
On 25 February 2022 (Friday), the Art Museum published the first issue of Art Times, a lifestyle magazine series sponsored by the Lo Kwee Seong Foundation. It takes readers on a time-travel journey to revisit and reimagine bygone lifestyles from a modern perspective. This issue’s destination is the Ferocious Beast Area of the Art Museum, where different kinds of tiger artefacts are introduced. After reading the magazine, readers can also vote for their favourite tigers on the Art Museum’s Facebook page until 1 May 2022 (Sunday). Art Times, issue 1 has attracted 131 views so far.
