Mr WONG Ho Cheong: General Education Best Essay Award (2017–18)
WONG Ho Cheong, a Year 2 student majoring in Government and Public Administration, has been granted the General Education Best Essay Award (2017–18) (Bronze Award), for his outstanding work entitled 'Hold on to Democracy amidst Wind and Rain' (「風雨中抱緊民主」).

Prof Tjonnie LI: Croucher Innovation Award 2018
Prof Tjonnie LI, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, received the Croucher Innovation Award 2018 from The Croucher Foundation to sponsor his research 'Unveiling the Nature and Origin of Compact Objects'.
Prof LI hopes that his proposal will 'provide a better understanding of the fundamental forces of Nature and their role in shaping the Universe', and 'have an impact on society through STEM outreach, international exposure and interdisciplinary big data research'.
The award presentation ceremony was held on 7 December 2018, where Prof LI was presented the award by the Honorable Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government.
The Croucher Innovation Awards
The Awards aim 'to identify a small number of exceptionally talented scientists working at an internationally competitive level and to offer substantial support to these "rising stars" at a formative stage in their careers.' The scheme is 'designed to enable recipients to pursue their own scientific, intellectual and professional inclinations, to advance their expertise, to engage in bold new work, and to contribute to the development of education and research in Hong Kong.' The award carries a value of HK$5 million over 5 years.
