Peer Mentoring Program 2018

To help new students adapt to university life, the College has been co-hosting the Peer Mentoring Program organised by the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) since its launch in 2014. Each peer mentee receives individual support from a peer mentor, an upper-year student matched by major subjects and trained by ILC.

In Term 1, 2018–19, 18 first-year students joined the Program as mentees and they were matched with 13 mentors who were themselves mentees in the Program last year. A Mentee Preparation Session was held on 27 September 2018 to familiarise mentees with the Program support and requirements. Mentors were required to attend formal training sessions organised by ILC in September and October 2018.

Peer mentors and mentees had regular contacts, and were monitored and supported by ILC. A Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held on 20 November 2018 to mark the mentors' successful completion of the Program. Dr Yvonne LOONG, Senior Lecturer of ILC, and Prof Wai-Yee CHAN, College Master, attended the ceremony and witnessed the mentors' achievements. After the ceremony, they enjoyed together the communal dinner of the College.
