Activities Organised by the Fifth Executive Committee (December 2018–January 2019)
Christmas Party—CWChristmas
Cosmos organised a Christmas Party, named 'CWChristmas', on 20 December 2018 as an occasion for our College residents to relax after intensive examinations and to strengthen the bonding among residents through the celebration of the joyful festival.
The Committee members decorated the venue with a Christmas tree and other lovely ornaments to create a festive atmosphere. They also prepared mass games and refreshments, including chocolate fondue and pizzas, for the participants to experience a fun-filled and satisfying Christmas at the College.
International Movie Night—Reflection
Cosmos held its very first International Movie Night on 23 January 2019. The activity was named 'Reflection', as the Committee members regarded movies as mirrors, and hoped that through watching the selected movies, the participants were able to look into their hearts and reflect upon their own mindset and ways of thinking, and even make changes since then.
The International Movie Night is held once per month during the semester, each time under the main theme on a country or city. During the activity, meaningful movies from around the globe are picked and played, so that the participants, regardless of their origins, can get to know, understand and explore cultures and issues in different regions, and to develop a global vision. The main theme of the first Movie Night was Hong Kong and the movie selected was Echoes of the Rainbow, which attracted a number of residents to gather in the TV Room to enjoy the movie together. There was a discussion session after the screening, during which the Committee members guided the participants to share what the film brought to them, like feelings, reflection and culture shock, leading to an in-depth cultural exchange among the participants.
The Committee members also incorporated another regular activity of the Residents' Association into the Movie Night: Dessert Gathering—Home Sweet Home. Therefore, after the movie, the participants could enjoy the heart-warming Chinese dessert Taro and Sago in Coconut Milk cooked by the Committee members. The sweet soup helped bring an even homier atmosphere to the participants.
CWCNY—Gather And Share
'CWCNY—Gather And Share' was held on 30 January 2019. More than 60 residents from different origins joined and celebrated the Lunar New Year together. The most popular activity was fai chun writing. Apart from writing traditional Lunar New Year greetings, many residents unleashed their creativity and wrote their New Year's resolutions on fai chun. Other activities included paper cutting, board games and traditional festive foods tasting. The participants all had a great time and enjoyed a memorable night.
CWGala—Table Tennis Competition
Cosmos organised 'CWGala—Table Tennis Competition' on 31 January 2019. It was like a mini Olympic as the participants came from different origins. The games attracted experienced players as well as some beginners. The participants went all out in the games, and all had spectacular performances.
As a Chinese saying goes, 'friendship first, competition second', the athletes undoubtedly enjoyed competing against one another but they also made new friends and appreciated one another's table tennis skills.
Cosmos was glad to know that the competition helped to promote sports, as more residents play table tennis in the Activity Rooms as a pastime after the competition.
